Awesome... I have always loved the idea of rail guns since my n64 days playing xtreme g with the rail gun weapon. Watching transformers revenge was awesome when devastator got taken out by one. Now it is all coming real! Too bad the heat dissipated is so massive it melts and distorts everything. Need to find a way to fix that.

The thing leaves the 'barrel' at around mach 7.... I'd imagine you don't bother steering the thing until it slows down a bit.

They're talking about ranges in the future of 200 miles. Considering outer space is generally considered to start at about 100 miles above the planet's surface....... seems like a reasonable way to put stuff into orbit. If you aren't concerned with the condition of the stuff inside!
