background:

my friend is buying his first bike soon after a month or two on a cbr125.

he wants a gsxr750.

he wants to buy brand new because he wants the best machine possible.

I explained to him that the only benefits he will see will be some of the new electronic modes and traction control but thats about it. i advised him to buy a bike with under 2,000km for $4,000 less.

His response (followed by other similar logic...)

made me LOL thought I'd share. he went on to explain how he saw in reviews that he would get a better suspension and chassis for improved feedback....

I'm terrible for posting this because honestly I did the EXACT same thing when I was getting my first bike so this is EXACTLY like the pot calling the kettle black but it makes me smile.

A racing suspension on a 2009-2010 gsxr750 and all the other bits going with it....not good enough. lol

Did you explain to him that at his experience level that he would not even know what the feed back is telling him? Oh the stars in the eyes:BLAA:

Very hard to convince nOObs to save their money.

I remember I initially wanted new as well, but before I jumped in, I did enough reading to realize it made a whole more sense to save some cash on my first bike.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to benefit from latest and greatest GIXXER offering vs 2 year old models, but as I said.. hard to convince nOObs.

I want the Ninja 1000 after only 1.5 years on an FZ6. That bike is only available new... does that make me a noob too? JK :Flash::rolleyes:

i've had mine less than a year and i've been eying up the RSV4 :D

tbf, stuff like ABS and traction control interests me from a safety perspective

just wait for the above guy to drop his new pride and joy, and then you can say "I told you so" from a safe distance.

I think the value of my FZ6 has actually gone up since I bought it.

I wished I listen to my friend and didn't buy the ninja 500. I sold that 2 months later for the FZ6. Now wishing I bought a liter bike. LOL.

*watches as tcmalker crashes......again*

:)

A bit of caution goes a long way, my friend. Development as a rider is a linear process. Have fun on whatever machine you're on. They all possess the power to please you immensely if you let them.

I for one am more about trying to become the best rider I can as quickly as I can rather than just trying to ride the best bike as quickly as I can.

But different four strokes for different folks. I wish you luck in your sale of the FZ as you continue to search for greener pastures. There is a tremendous variety of bikes out there. I trust you will find the right machine for your personality eventually.

I hope he enjoys riding the bank's motorcycle. Unfortunately wisdom is one of those things that has to be obtained through experience. I certainly traded and financed my share of new vehicles before realizing the joys of living within my means.

I wanted a Ninja 250r for a first bike, but they were on back order so I bought the FZ6, I know.... I'm stupid right? who buys a 250 as a first bike:spank: heck I still want a Ninja 250, i've got a turbo that'll fit it.:D

Turbo Ninja 250 sounds like a blast!

I went from a cruiser (starter bike) to the FZ6 and after almost a year I'm still very happy with my 2005. It does have a scorpion exhaust that makes it feel faster, which is immensely pleasing. Matching revs is like playing a musical instrument:)

Why not a Busa or ZX14...or turbo busa? Seriously.

but only if it's got an extended swing arm and lowered, as for proper attire for such a bike? That can only be cargo shorts, wife beater, flipflops, ballcap turned backwards, and really cool sunglasses:rockon:
