I have a lot of "fun" on mine so my milage isn't the best, but I'm getting about 42 miles per gallon right now with almost 4,000 miles on the bike, but when I first had it the mileage was really terrible, seemed to smooth out around 2,000 miles on the odometer.

i think its bad math...by filling up on the sidestand youre not completely filling up the tank and ive noticed that at initial start up the bike fuel guage seems tor read low with the bar flashing even though there's still a godd amount as you ride the guage goes up.. how many gallons are you putting in the tank?

Filled up again and checked more accurately and I am getting 48 miles/gallon, so thats a bit better. Filling up on the side stand and not letting it get very low along with some poor calcs seems to have been the problem.

Things that will cause poor gas mileage:

Under inflated tires.
Poor wheel alignment.
Clutch needing adjustment.
Chain too tight.
Riding at high RPM’s.
Dirty air filter.
TPS recall(older bikes) or out of adjustment.
High speed riding.
Riding two up.
A new bike not broken in.

I’m sure there are more but I can’t think of anymore at the moment.:Flash:

I average around 45mpg even when I'm 2-up.

Thanks for all the advice, some very good points. I don't think it is the garage or petrol as I have filled up at different places. Nor do I think it is my riding style as I am running between 3k and 6k revs with the occaisional squirt up to 9k ( when aimed straight)

I think it could be a combination of things, my maths is bad, I do fill up on the side stand but it does say full. I am concerned that the chain may be too tight. I am glad it is in for the 600 mile check next week, I will ask to have this and some other things looked at.

Thanks all

Yeah man. Either fill the bike on the center stand, or stay on the bike and hold it upright (what I do). That way you're actually filling the tank.

My bike started getting bad mileage and misfiring, but turned out the Throttle
Position Sensor was recalled. Yamaha dealer replaced it no charge, but
I had to replace the plugs, as they were fouled out and misfiring.
There is a thread on this, as it happens alot, mostly on the older ones.
May not apply to your bike but thought I would mention it.
