R3 for a track bike?

The question is, get an R3 (honda and Kawasaki's are ruled out for various reasons) for a track bike OR buy a used 600cc bike like an R6 or even an FZ6, for about the same or less money?

I like the R3, but think I would go the 600cc direction. What say you all?

I'd probably go with a R6 myself, but I am in close proximity to Road America.

The problem with the small displacement bikes for me is the amount of suspension work they need to be comparable to the 600cc class supersport.

However, if I was set on the R3, I would wait for a used one.

you can buy a well sorted track bike for a lot less than a new bike

I bought my GSXR-600 K3 with steering damper, upgraded suspension, race tuned engine and cams, spare wheels, etc, for £1500 (~$2500) a couple of years ago.

Track bikes are usually much cheaper than road bikes.

+1 to what others said. R3 is cute and all, but for track use you can get something that's already set up for less money.
Heck, old stock R6 would still be better.. more adjustable and likely firmer sprung.

Well it's definitely more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slowly. If you can find a decently priced and well set up R6 that's still street legal, I wouldn't pass it up. Otherwise, the R3 is always an option.

You could get a super clean R6S all day long for less money than a new R3.

Similar styling too...

Nothing wrong with the R3 if that's what you want, but I have my doubts that it'll be a better track bike than the R6S.
