You can baby it some if you want, but you really should work your way up the RPM ladder.
From the owner’s manual:
For the first 1600 km (1000 mi) prolonged full-throttle operation or any condition that might result in engine overheating must be avoided.
0–1000 km (0–600 mi)
Avoid prolonged operation above 7000 r/min.
1000–1600 km (600–1000 mi)
Avoid prolonged operation above 8400 r/min.
It does not say not to rev it, it says to not go past stated RPM for extended times.
At 250 miles I was hitting 10,000 RPM on a fairly regular basis, by 500 I was at 12,000.
