Y-shaped cooling pipe

Hi riders,
I bought an FZ6 last summer, and I did a coolant change before winter. I noticed that there is a Y-shaped metal cooling part in the cooling circuit, which looked very rusty. (For Denmark, it is impressive that only that part is rusty on the bike-The roads get huge amounts of salt during winter)
There are no leaks, and the coolant was clean when I replaced it. So my question is: would you replace this part? It is about 25 Euros, which is not that much.

I'd agree with the above suggestions, take it off, clean it up and repaint with Hammerite or similar.

Also, it might be worth replacing the Jubilee Clips as they look a bit rough too.

Agree with the above. Clean and paint. That's verry little work compared to other maintenance you will eventually be doing on the bike.
 
If i remember correctly that "Y' assembly provides coolant to that oil cooler assembly. I use a product called Ospho. It converts iron oxide to iron phosphate. I have had really good results with this product. I used it on a security door and have not had to repaint it in 7 years.

Not that it matters for this application, but the conversion process does weaken the metal. Something to consider for structural applications.
 
I'd replace the part(s)... It's cheap enough.

IMO, between the road salt, it's current condition,
it's not worth the potential failure causing some serious issues if it lets loose under way.

That and getting stranded...


If not going to replace, obviously remove it and check for how deep the corrosion is,
especially under the hoses (IE push hard with a screw driver to make sure it's solid).
