alright, so my boyfriend just got a new 2009 yamaha fz6 a couple months ago. ive been tryna think of xmas gifts for him and decided it would be cool to buy him something for his motorcycle..however i know nothing about motorcycles.

some things he's mentioned/some ideas

a motorcyle cover
a battery charger
and a 3 season motorcyle jacket.

i need help with specifics tho. im so lost. i'd really appreciate if you all could give me some details/ideas!!

For a cover, check out the brand Nelson-Rigg. They make nice covers for a decent price.

Any type of protective gear is important but one of the hard parts is fitting.
There are a few banners to click on the site that sell gear.

As far as a cover goes I use the largest size so as to cover the entire bike but if the bike will be indoors you might get the cheapest because you won't be exposed to harsher elements.

I have a medium...it fits a little snug, so I would suggest at least, large. A little loose is better than too tight.

I love the Scorpion Hat Trick jacket. It has two removable liners: one for rain, one thermal. It goes from hot to cold to wet in a snap. I got mine for $105 from newenough.com. I don't see it there now, or I'd link it. Look around.

one of the best 3 season jackets out there is the rev'it defender gtx.
it has a gore-tex liner that's guaranteed waterproof over the life of the jacket.
it has sas-tec armor that's used by the military in iraq.
a bunch of other features.....
it has a "euro fit", which means that it fits better for slim people.
i may buy this or the bmw rallye 3.....

How would you feel getting a surge protector for your computer for Christmas? It'd just be a kinda lame present.

A jacket might be cool.

But I think you should get him something cool that is just a random trinket and upgrade. Get him a new slip on exhaust, or HID bulbs. Or get him STEEL BRAIDED BRAKE LINES!! Those lines are probably the best upgrade for the cost vs impact it has.

Orrrrrrrr.......a Top Saddlery seat. Wickedly comfortable. The stock seat is garbage.

Those would be "holy **** thats so awesome" moments when he opens them. So do you want "holy **** that's so awesome" or "hey I was going to buy this but you bought it instead thanks for saving me some money, but it's too bad you don't care enough about me to make me smile. Ah well."

"Ah well" is not something you want to hear on Christmas morning. So, in order of "holy ****" here is the list as I would rank them:

1) Top Saddlery seat

2) New slip on exhaust (assuming he doesnt already have upgraded one from stock)

3) Steel braided lines

4) HID bulbs

12) Jacket

257) bike cover

3,579) Battery charger

most other mods actually change how the thing rides and thats a personal decision the rider should make. These listed are just cool upgrades in order of coolness.

P.S. If you really care for him you would get him ALL of them.

P.P.S. Yeah, agreed on jacket. They all fit so differently he would need to try them one. And that kills the magic and surprise.

Can't go far wrong with a battery optimiser, think the cover is a bit boring, and the jacket is going to be a very personnel thing as far as look and feel.

I personally would have been very happy with the battery charger (optimiser) for Christmas, just make sure it is specifically for motorbikes

Even though I laugh at lonesoldier's list, I'd go with a battery tender/smart charger if you are on a budget.

As you are in TX, and it's cold right now and the riding is a bit more limited, you might think about an electrically heated vest.... more spendy, but being cold on a bike is a dangerous thing. When your core temp drops, you get stupid. Keep the core warm,a nd everything else stays warmer.

Priceless. They are all cool upgrades, but somewhat costly. Some may have impacts on his future upgrade/mod plans (ie. not all slip-on exhausts work with Givi racks, he may want to convert his bike to naked, etc.)

I agree that battery tenders are a somewhat lame gift... that's why I threw in the TS saddle option (supporting your idea). A jacket is not such a good way to go as a gift, because you have to try it on, compare various styles, etc. It's more a "I want this, and will buy it myself" gift.

And as for the slip-ons, none of them work with a Givi rack without serious mods to the rack or the bike, except Leo Vince. And even then, you have to play with it.

Go for the TS seat girl, his butt will thank you!
