If you have never changed your brake fluid...DO IT!!!

I see DOT 3 and 4 brake fluids vs. just straight up DOT 4 brake fluids. Can the former be used? It was the only choice at AutoZone when I stopped to look during lunch.

Read the fine print - it's likely SYNTHETIC and should NOT be MIXED! Yes, I know they say its compatible. I wish yamaha would have placed the SAE Spec in the manual; i.e. is it any of these? SAE J1703, FMVSS No. 116 and DOT 4 Dot 5 is full synthetic. DOT 3 & 4 "historically" were glycol based.

Example is this product: Valvoline ® DOT 3 & 4 Brake Fluid Synthetic
Low-moisture formula is compatible with all systems requiring DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluids. High dry boiling point up to 480°F reduces the risk of fluid evaporation and possible brake failure. Surpasses SAE J1703, FMVSS No. 116 and DOT 4 specifications. Choose from 12- or 32-oz. sizes.

You could grab some Yamalube DOT 4 Brake Fluid, but there are other sources....
