I've been away in Cairo working on a project there and this time decided to stay in a different hotel. Not too shabby a view, huh?

And from the balcony at about 4:30am using night mode:

Awesome, thanks for sharing Tom!!! Got home at 4:30am after partying all night huh? :D

Did you get a chance to check the Pyramids out closely? How is it? More pics?

I've never been to Egypt, but would love to go! I love North Africa...

How so?

LA is dodgy too lol

When I was there I had my own armed guard as well as an army escort. People at the pyramid were dodgy as hell, getting too close and doing their very best to separate you from your family (i was young at the time). A day before i had arrived a beautiful blond girl had a bag thrown over her in an attempt to abduct her. The army in the area sorted that out.

I didn't feel vulnerable on the street but I guess being a foreigner in a different country i just felt uneasy. With so many people moving around me I was on high alert...I guess if I went back things may feel different, I do intend to go back in time.

Unfortunately, this trip was all business. Now, when I was there last Feb the story was different... I think I averaged 5am for turning in. And last time I did get to check out the pyramids up close...

I've been there a couple times now and I have never felt in danger of any kind. Yes, like most other emerging markets, there is dodgyness in cab drivers, beggars and the like, but you figure it out. It did rain a couple evenings, which is why the pics aren't full of smog!

Egypt Rules:
Rule #1: Always know what is going on around you (applies to all travel).
Rule #2: Don't take a black taxi. Make sure it's a newer ride with a proper meter.
Rule #3: If your driver wants to make a stop at a "museum" (i.e. souvenir shop) best to humor him.
Rule #4: Avoid walking across the street
Rule #5: Bottled water is your friend, and, frankly, so will be most of the Egyptians you encounter. They are good people.

Damn bro! Are you important or something? you travel around with your own guard and army escort? Niiiiice :D

I've been to Africa a few times (Tunisia a few times, Ethiopia 2 times and Morocco), and I've never felt in danger, even though I can understand that one would feel uncomfortable in certain areas/situations...

Now, I've also been in Brazil and went all over the place with a backpack and a rental car by myself when people (locals) told me I was crazy for doing so and there were good chances I'd never see home again... so I might have different views on things than most
