I picked up a new used bike a couple weeks ago and haven't said much as I've had to get it running (the previous owner had left it outside for quite a long time). So...... I present to you, my motorcycle friends, my new project...wait for it.....

ZUMA 50!

Has been sitting for long enough the gas in the tank looked like hair gel.

Got it into the garage.

And.... SUCCESS!!

First ride was to the gas station. We had put premix fuel in the tank just in case the oiler wasn't working, but it was working fine.

They are WAY too much fun to ride. Especially hopped up. My buddy Zac has a 70cc big bore kit and carbon fiber reeds on top of the other mods I'm doing and his will really get after it for a scooter.

Plus, 100mpg for my 4 miles to work sure sounds nice.

I've got another type of Yamaha scooter (Aerox, don't know if it has been sold over seas?), with everything possible done to it: big bore, crankshaft, ignition, transmition, gears, exhaust....
I'm getting around 26 hp out of it, and it still isn't tuned to 100% :BLAA:

I'm mainly using it for some scootercross, but I've got another "stealth" version of it to use on the road. (But the cops are really after it :ban:)

We don't get the Aerox stateside, but my understanding is that it is almost exactly the same as the Zuma mechanically. Are you running a stroker crank? What was your favorite upgrade? What is scootercross?

yea that smell is sure to make an impression on your clients at the office.

I suppose if you lived and worked in the same town with no speed limits on the roads you ride over 45mph this would work but just not feasible for commuting on the highways or backroads at 60-80 mph. Looks like a fun project though! I'm looking out for a dropped Ninja 250 project.

There is a big difference between the Zuma and Aerox (over here also sold as the "MBK Nitro"), as the Aerox is liquid cooled and the Zuma air cooled...
I think the zuma is practically the same as the Yamaha Rocket over here.

Yes, I'm using a specific combo of cylinder + crank to get the +70cc engine displacement.
As for my favorite upgrade; they all have their own + and -. But I think the best mod was the suspension (cost me quite a bit as well ), as for the cross version or at the street.

To give you a basic list of what I've done to both scooters:

Cross:
cylinder + crank
exhaust
ignition + cdi
21mm carb kit + filter + racing manifold + valve reed
primary gears + secundary gears
transmission set: fly clutch, clutch bell, variator, rear pully + spring)
roller crankcase
electrical water pump
front + rear shocks
brakes
cosmetics: (fairing parts, flat handle bar, ....)
knobby tyres

Street:
Same as cross but:
Cylinder: will be 2 cylinders when my kit comes in ;)
carb: 28mm
tyres: slicks
frame stretched
NOS installed (but only used when doing some sprint challenges :D)
other cosmetics, as well as required lights (but really minimal :D)

I guess I've forgotten some small stuff, but you will get the picture ;)

Grtz,

60-80 mph can easily be handled by these kind of scooters, if set up properly :cheer:
The only problem is to keep em cool at long runs (I've destroyed a lot of engines due to this :spank:)

I want one. I've always liked the Big Ruckus and from what I've seen on scooter mods it's another place you can drop $$$$!

I would love a scooter. I'd wire some milk crates for side and top cases and go totally urban ghetto for my grocery runs.

pics please!

Here is the street how it was during spring...
Since we had a real crappy summer, I started early on the conversion for the twin cylinder and other stuff (real carbon fiber fairing, frame will be stretched a good bit, custom made rims, ....)

No pics of the cross, as it is in a real bad shape after a crash 2 weeks back (pff, I really don't wanna repear all that stuff :()

Well what the f***?
Why is there a link created at "water pump" in my previous post?
I didn't put a link there (and certainly not towards eBay )

What is this VigLink stuff? Hell, we don't need those automated referral links :spank:

I'm with you here! haha.

I haven't gone that ghetto yet...but now I'm thinking about it for my scoot. Hey, you can find some really good buys on scooters this time of year! They are a ton of fun. Make sure you wave to all the Harley riders.

Hop on the Fizzer when you get bored and want a real ride.
