Hello everyone, I completed a homebrew naked conversion last year:

http://www.600riders.com/forum/fz6-streetfighter/57301-she-got-peeled.html

Since then, my headlight has been burning out quickly. The low beam goes and then the high beam. I thought it was because of the old bulb or maybe it was a cheap bulb but it happened again.
-The headlight is mounted using rubber gaskets between the washers.
-I replaced the turn signals with LED's and I have read that over voltage can prematurely burn out bulbs.

I understand that LED bulbs have less resistance, hence faster blinking, would this affect the amount of power going to the headlight?

First off, your bike looks great. I don't see front turn signals; how did you eventually mount them?

When replacing H4 bulbs it's important that you not touch the glass portion of the assembly. Wear a pair of gloves to be safe. When you do reinstall a new bulb, if you do touch the glass just clean it with alcohol.

LED turn signals require an in-line resistor or just simply replace the flasher with one designed to run LED's for $10 https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...ectronic-flasher/787/842/#/tab/Specifications

If you are concerned about the voltage output of the charging system, it's a simple check. Connect a voltage meter to the battery and check the output at idle and 5,000 rpm. The FSM suggests 14VDC at 5,000 rpm, but a normal range is 14VDC to 14.8VDC. Any higher and you have a problem with the rectifier. If that's the case we can walk through trouble shooting the charging system.

Also... If you've converted your bike from a faired model to a single H4 headlamp the H4 headlamp will overheat unless the headlamp is wired so that the low beam filament shuts off when the hi beam filament is activated. The H4 lamp was designed for this type of switching but the original faired FZ6 used two separate lamps for hi and lo beam and was wired to keep the low beam on because there was no need to shut it off.
Make sure the low beam filament shuts off. If it doesn't you will have premature failure of the H4 lamp.

Good point. What would that circuit look like?

One of our members (bd43) used to make a kit to make it so the H4 lamp in the original OEM head lamp could be used. I used to also make a relay kit that could be used on any bike that needed this same mod.
Here is a link to one of the threads. http://www.600riders.com/forum/how-...od-part-1-a.html?highlight=bd43+headlight+mod

Also there is some good info I've done on the headlamp relay mod some where on the forum. If you have a schematic you can check the color codes for the wiring.

A naked OEM FZ6 will already be correctly wired for a single H4 lamp.

Thanks for the responses guys, I did the dual headlight mod before converting but I will check to make sure that the low beam shuts off when I turn the high beam on (I'll use my counterfeit solar eclipse glasses ). I will say that even never using the high beam (unless the low beam burns out) I still was seeing premature failure of the low beam.
