Yamaha Devolping Triples for R6/R1

I searched but did not find the story on the forum anywhere so sorry if it has been posted before, I missed it.

It seems Yamaha is going to go with inline 3's and going away from inline 4's on many bikes including their R6 and R1.

Here's some more info on the motor that Yamaha showed off at a trade show. I read something about this in Sport Rider a few issues ago, too.

the fz1 still hasn't got the cross-plane crank though, i bet you won't get a triple version of the fz6 or fz1 for a long time

that would be sweet, it would probably bring the weight down and make the bikes feel slimmer. and maybe a little more torque, with that sweet triple sound. im definitely game. i would imagine they will stay with the 4-screemer in GP though as the regulations are different then WSB.

I realize it's old news but I hadn't seen it before and didn't see it in a search. It would be interesting to see how far they can go with it. For everyday riding it seems to be the best compromise between a large twin and i-4. For racing there aren't too many that use Triumphs in the 600cc class but there's a few and they do okay with it (675). This news is kinda like using a v-twin like the RC51 or something... doesn't last long.
