Blast from the past, how's It going Dirk? Hmmm, that map looks the same, head west and fill it up! I'm in Idaho

Idaho? Sounds way more boring than Vegas. yeah I haven't had a chance to go on anymore trips especially now that I'm the business manager at a Harley dealer. I always have to work during the good riding season.

We had a great day today! The guys took LOTS of pictures, so I hope they get them posted up.

Jerry was at Motogiro's last night and I joined them for some pizza, brining along Mike & his daughter. This morning, I caught up with J & M and Goop in Ramona as we headed out to the meet up point. Red Wasp and friend Mark were waiting for us... But I wasn't sure it was them so I rode up and parked to the side just in case they were total strangers! We had just finished introductions and were settling in to the conversation when Cali Rider arrived.

The weather was fine but windy, especially through the passes. We decided to ride down & up Montezuma, with the required photo stop at the Yeti in Ranchita, then over to Banner Grade into Julian. They let me take the lead and I chose a reasonably fun pace. No tickets, no downs. Red Wasp is a madman on that GoldWing!

Just as we got to Julian, Cali had a mechanical problem so we decided on lunch at the Wrongbranch before he and Jerry headed north. The rest of us were up for more riding so we headed out Sunrise Hwy to Mt Laguna. I've ridden that road many times, but it was totally different with wind gusts trying to turn my little gixxer into a kite. We ended up back down in Santa Ysabel just in time to help a stranger load his giant cruiser into the back of a pickup. No, it wasn't a HD.

It was a great time with good friends, new and old. I love riding with you guys. And thanks goes out to Jerry who DID wear his fz tshirt. Can't wait to see the pics!

Ditto. Will have some pics up soon.
Cali riders shifter magically fixed its self some where north of Santa Ysabel so we just went over and rode Palomar east grade and south grade, stopped for gas at the Pala casino and found out that my tire plug kit works great, ha ha, no not for me but for a gal with a flat on her pick up, so now I know how to use the thing. I didn't do the repair as the guy she was with did it but I did observe:thumbup:
We parted ways at the 15 and 76, John went over to the 5 and I went north on the 15. Dogs were very very happy I was home and the wife too:D

What a great day! The weather was beautiful and we had to fight strong winds at times. You can't beat having great people as friends and riders to share this great experience of riding that we have. It seems that we always add good people to the fold! Amazing!

Verharen did a great job of taking the lead and setting a great pace.

With all the people coming from different locations timing at the meeting points work out really great.

Red Wasp hypnotized us flicking the Hypnopotumus through the turns with that fat "Dark Side" tire.

Thank you all again for sharing a great part of life with me!

Who rode:
Red Wasp (Hypnopotumus)
Motogiro (SV1000s)
Jblk9695 (Tigerrrr!)
Verharen (Wild Child & Black Betty)
Goop (Speed Triple)
Cali rider (Super Ten)
Marc (Tiger 1200)

There's a dirt lot at the intersection of San Filipe Rd. and Rt. 79 which was the final meetup stage of the group.

Naturally we have to take a picture with the Yeti in Ranchita

So odd seeing a GW in one of these groups rides on this forum, especially from this group, you know, the ones that call themselves Hoons.

Eh, if you see how Red Wasp rides that GW, then it totally qualifies as Hoon equipment.

It was a great day with little problem from the gusting winds.

As Jerry mentioned, my shifting issue seemed to clear up on the way home, but still stiff. I found the lever pivot was dry and contaminated, after cleaning/greasing the problem is solved.

Good to hear the shifter is good now. I thought later it may be one of pivots.

Great to see you and thanks for coming all the way down to ride with us John!

Here's what I enjoy most about your pictures, even if you are all Hoons.

Your pictures really emphasizes on how this forum stresses on the importance of wearing full safety gear. Everyone pictured are very seasoned riders with many years and decades of experience and hundreds of thousand miles combined and this is the choice they have taken. Really makes you wonder what the other riders are thinking when it comes to riding who don't have nearly the riding experience you all have, but yet don't wear the full compliment of gear.

For those who may wear gear, but might be missing an item or two, take a look at the pictures again and reevaluate.

Never really thought of it that way but experience and gear do seem to go together. As I think about this recent group ride, everyone could go fast in a skilled manner and everyone was geared up.

I personally know from my own pain as well as the pain of others, that gearing up is so very important. I was fully geared up in a crash in 2010. If I was not wearing the protective gear I had been wearing it would have been considerably worse.

Made it home today before dark. 600 miles in 11 hours on the Hippo, it was a pretty day with some clouds and sun. I'll try to get a few pictures up soon.
A big thanks to all the socal hoons who came out Saturday to make for a very good day of riding, lunch and tire kicking. I really enjoyed meeting new friends and visiting with those I already know. Everyone rode a nice pace and no squid moves, it's always a pleasure to ride with good motorcyclists even if it was a bit breezy.

The first time we met, part of what caused me to stop and say hi was that you seemed like a group that valued safety through quality gear. I still feel like a new rider when I'm with you guys though! I've got nothing on your experience...but I'm working on it!

As for gear I'm wishing there was better fitting gear for women. Especially on a sport bike when your legs are really bent, it would be nice to have knee guards that are in the right spot. Sigh. I think custom leathers are in my future.

This thread made me sick. You people have WAY too much fun. Can't wait until the next ride I do with hoons. Meanwhile, local commuting mostly FZ6. Don't you love living in CA? Who needs water?
