At this point in time I would like to publicly state my intention on showing up tomorrow. However, current estimates of success are at 50%. Only time will tell.

Cliff, text me in the morning so I know when to meet you! 12 noon at the shell right??

Phone is on "loud".

All in all, another exciting adventure with the SoCal Hoons.
  • No one got struck by lightning.
  • We had 2 FZs in attendance.
  • We made a new friend.
  • We discovered a new restaurant with yummy food.

Ride report:

Nick made it. :cheer:
Cali rider didn't. :(

It was a really warm, muggy day, but when you're with your best riding buddies you don't really care. We had a great morning on the Border Patrol route. We had our photo taken by Tony.

When we were down toward the border, we made a new friend on his beautiful all black Ducati. I can't believe I didn't get any pictures of his bike, but he joined us for part of our ride and lunch.

After our Ducati friend joined us, we headed toward Jacumba and the ominous black storm clouds ahead. The first huge lightning strike had us rethinking our route. We turned around, got on the freeway, and headed for the small town of Alpine for lunch. I knew of the perfect spot...but it was closed. So I asked a guy that looked local for a recommendation, and we found our way to Janet's Montana Cafe. Yum.

From there, some headed home, and some followed Motogiro...but where was he going?? He took the back way to Ramona and tried to lose some of us in town. But we Hoons are hard to shake. Goop, Motogiro & ba4x headed back down the hill, and I escorted Steve & Jerry to Santa Ysabel. We hit a little rain just as we got there but I bet they got back to dry land pretty quickly after heading north.

Thanks for the pics Jen, Steve and I ran into a little rain just about up to San Felipe Road but it was kind of refreshing.
Managed 416 miles today and I think I'll leave the Iron Butt stuff to Jen and others, I'm thinking 300 or so is about right.
But with that said I'm ready to go again:thumbup::D
Heck I'm going to ride down to the railroad museum and also stop at that old grain elevator we passed with all the old vehicles around it, looks interesting.

Thanks again to every body for another great ride and we were thinking of ya Lefty:thumbup:

Thank you for the great pics Verharen!
As usual we had a great ride even though we had to evade lightning storms. We had to turn around because we were headed right into it. Some of the strikes were across the sky as well as to ground. Neat to watch the leaders and then multi strikes. I thought about the thread that Lefty started last week about lightning. I didn't want to be part of anything but a fun time. I was the sweeper and we started with 7 riders and ended up picking up a tail. Goop was on point. One person joined the ride in Cameron's Corners, Ca. His name was Chris on a sweet Ducati Street Fighter. Maybe he'll join the forum! :) I got Goop on the Sena comm. and we turned the group around but still had to get under heavy cloud cover that was part of another cell as we hauled ass westward on the 8 freeway.

Verharen lead us to a great spot for lunch. After lunch I tried to get us back toward Romona in hopes the weather might change so Jerry could make it back home through the back roads while avoiding freeways. We took the 67 to Wildcat Canyon Road which unfortunately had slow moving traffic. We finally made it to Ramona. :)

It was a hot and muggy day but it never hurt the fun and comradery I have with my great friends. Great ride all! Let's do it again tomorrow! :BLAA:

My calendar is open this coming weekend...if the weather allows maybe we can try to finish the planned route. I wouldn't be opposed to doing the whole thing again - minus the storm.

It blew his face shield off! Burned his face and hair and the clap deafened him.

:eek:He took off his helmet and asked, “Why am I parked by the side of the road,”:eek:

I am glad we spun around and back tracked last monday! :D

Well... He has one hell of a story to tell the grand kids.

Yeah, and each time he ends the story to his Grandkids with, "And that's why Grampaw only has one ear, one sideburn, and can recharge Grammaws..... cell phone without a charger!":p

I'm hoping it will be safe to go up in the mountains tomorrow. Betty got a new (used) Akrapovic full exhaust system and PCIII yesterday. Her silky throttle and deep throaty rumble have turned me into jelly. I fell in love all over again on my 45 min ride home from the shop yesterday. Honestly, I always thought the phrase "it's better than sex" was complete hyperbole. Not so sure now...

Anyway, I'm working hard on my chores so I can play all day tomorrow. :D

Can't wait to hear that! Now you can really hear Black Betty sing! :BLAA:

We're going to watch the dog surfing contest tomorrow in Del Mar at dog beach. My face hurts from smiling each year we go to this event. Wanna come? Bring friends! They have a dog fashion show that is too funny! :rof:

Dozer the surf dog is my friend and neighbor!
Here's a calender with time and location tomorrow. Everyone is invited! :)

I finished our ride today since the storm clouds have receded. It was a beautiful day in the mountains. And, I think, not entirely sure, but I think I saw an "S" Hoon on Old Julian Hwy :BLAA: You could hear it?!? Isn't it beautiful? Had to call Lefty so he could hear it over the phone.

No squirrel deaths to report.

I didn't see anyone, but then again I was riding 243 to see how the road is after the fire, past Poppet Flats a ways it turns nice and green. Saw a few structures that didn't survive but for the most part the firefighters did a heck of a job and protected most of them. Went as far as lake Fulmore and it still looks very picturesque.
